Fact of the Day 06-21-2024 – Cheetahs

The cheetah, also known as Acinonyx jubatus, is the fastest land animal in the world, reaching speeds of over 60 mph. However, while hunting, it only goes half the speed because going at its top speed drains its energy. Cheetahs typically live in grasslands and open areas in Asia and Africa. They have excellent eyesight to help them see through the sunlight to catch their prey. Their typical prey are gazelles, but they eat other things as well. Cheetahs are hard to see because of their spotted coats, that help them blend in their environment. Their average life span in the wild is up to 14 years, and in captivity, it’s 20 years. This species in danger, due to habitat loss and deforestation.
